What The Book Depot pays for
used books
We buy books for cash or credit
that we feel we can resell. We will purchase whole libraries or
single titles.
CASH: We
pay in cash approximately 30% of what we expect to realize for
the books bought. This is based upon desirability, market value
or in-print price, condition, and our current stock levels.
CREDIT:
We offer in store credit of 25% of the cover price on paperbacks
and 50% of what we expect to realize on other books depending
upon popularity, which can be used for special orders or purchasing
any item in the store.
Example #1 "The Partner" by John
Grisham Paperback Cover Price $6.99
We sell paperbacks consistently
at ½ the cover price ($3.50).
You would receive $1.05 in cash
(30% X $3.50 = $1.05) or $1.75 in store credit.
Example #2 "The Partner" by John
Grisham Hardback 1st Ed Fine Cover Price $27.00
We would anticipate selling this
book for $9.00
You would receive $2.70 in cash
or $4.50 in store credit.
How much is it worth?
The value of a book is based on
two main factors, condition and rarity.
The condition of most books is the
primary contributing factor to its value. As an example; if a
fine condition copy of a book with a dust jacket that is
also fine, is valued at $100.00, a copy without a dust
jacket and stains on the cover would have a value of $3.00 to
$5.00 as a reference or reading copy only. We recommend and use
the following www.abebooks.com;
www.half.com; www.alibris.com.
Book conditions are rated as follows:
Good: A
worn, creased, books often with rolled spine, crumpled and worn
corners are expected. All pages in-tack, could have some writing
inside, could be a public library copy, could have some stains,
sun bleached, yellowing of the pages, dust jacket could be torn,
ragged, and taped. (Good reference or reading copy)
Good to Very Good:
A borderline book closer to Very Good than Good.
Very Good:
Typical used book. A solid copy. No stains, dust jacket or cover
could have minor dents, very minor stain, minimal writing on inside,
no more than 3 minor defects.
Near Fine:
A beautiful copy. No creases, could have a small color chip or
minor pencil arrival mark, could have slight yellowing, but not
brown.
Fine: New
off the shelf quality, could show very light traces of being read.
What won't we buy?
With so many books in the world,
and our own stock continually changing, it is impossible to say
exactly what we'll be interested in at any one time. However,
we can say exactly what kinds of books we are not interested
in. Those are:
Damaged books Family Bibles
Old textbooks Old encyclopedia sets
Adult series westerns (Longarm,
etc) Adult series romances (Harlequin, etc)
Magazines Most book club editions
That leaves a lot that we are interested
in, so please don't hesitate to get in touch with us if you have
a collection or a single book you're interested in selling.
